Today our church, St Stephen’s, got slightly flooded by a burst water main on Mowbray Rd. It was covered on both Channel 7 and 9 on their 6pm news broadcasts. It was also covered by The North Shore Times (here). There is also a photo gallery here.
As of yet there is no major damage to be seen.

Below are some photos from my Dad’s iPhone.

Over the next month there’s going to be sporadic posting on this site. This isn’t for any other reason then the fact that I’m away. Get ready for regular posting starting Feb 2010! Anyway, here’s what I’m up too over the next month or so.
- Kiama Beach Mission – I’m giving 6 kids talks plus doing other stuff
- Holiday with the fiance and her family, I’m really looking forward to a break away from everything else
- Directing a Cru Camp called Escape – I would love it if you would pray for Escape 2010 (Facebook Group)
Hope you have a great summer! Or if you are in America, hope you have a great winter!
We go white water rafting on Escape!

I like blogging.
Over the past few months, I have missed it.
I have missed the reflecting and the active searching for new information to share.
Life has calmed down for me, I now have three months of holidays (though I have quite a bit to do). So I think I may have some time to casually blog.
I make no promises as to daily posting, but I will try to make quality posts when I do. I hope that I can share some helpful thoughts, and I look forward to discussion that will ensue.
Some things I may blog about include
- Continuing the Public vs Private debate (with new thoughts and possibility of creating a resource for pre-service teachers)
- 6 children’s talks I am writing for beach mission (on crazy stories from the Bible)
- General reflections from the Bible
- Thoughts about technology
- Anything else…?
A photo uploaded to Posterous
So first thing to blog about… Posterous
I just started an account (here), after seeing Dave Miers use it. It’s pretty cool, and allows you to immediately post to Facebook and Twitter (and other sites).
It’s pretty easy to post, just via email or on the web. I think it’s better than Twitpic or other photo services, and it’s not just for photos.
Well that was fun. I look forward to this casual blogging, and will see where it leads.

Blogging is a good thing.
Communication is central to learning, and blogging allows us to communicate ideas really easily, and it creates a great forum for discussion.
I like blogging (see 4 Reasons to Blog).
At this current stage in my life, I will not continue to blog. Blogging takes up time, and I have less t
ime than I used to. Sure, I could blog every idea that I am currently thinking about, so as to reflect on these ideas. But there I some things that I want to reflect on without sharing with everyone.
Blogging also at times isn’t so great (See 3 Reasons Not to Blog).
I have enjoyed blogging, and have enjoyed thinking through ideas, and receiving feedback on these ideas. But for now, its a permanent break from blogging (and Twitter, cos I think they are very closely linked).
If you are a blogger, power to you. I think it is a great thing to do. I may be back one day to blog, but if I do, I think it will be a more specific blog with fewer posts each week.
Thanks to all who read over the past few months!

If you haven’t yet heard. Me and my wonderful fiance Alice are engaged.
This would be the reason why there has been little activity here for a while, and also why there is going to be no activity for a few weeks. Posting will resume sometime soon.
In the meantime, if you want you can read back through some of the best posts, or through archives.

Daily prayer is a hard task. What do you pray for? How do you remember what to pray for? How do you have time for it all?
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
Over the past few years, I have been trying to use a Prayer Spreadsheet to do daily prayer. All this is, is a Spreadsheet with the day of the week across the top, and then topics to pray for down the left. I then fill in the columns with different items.
Click to Download
This technique has helped in a number of ways.
- It helps you to remember to pray for different things each day such as missionaries, friends or your church.
- It allows you to spread out you prayers over the week, so that you can balance what you pray about (I find thhat this helps me to stay focussed)
- You can keep the Spreadsheet with you at all times in different formats (Paper, on your phone, on your computer)
- Finally, it allows prayer to be manageable, you have a set amount of praying to do each day, and it is there before you in a note form.
If you miss a day of praying, then that is ok, and if you want, you can pray for more than one day if you have extra time.
I really enjoy using this so I thought I would share this. If you would like to try this out, then here is a template for you to download and use*.
Do you have any tips to help Christians in daily prayer, or anything that works well for you? (Let us know in the comments below)

This past week has been an extremely full on experience.
As I have written previous, I was leading on a Crusader HSC Study Camp. There were 97 students on the camp as well as the leaders, and it was great to see God working through the lives of people on this camp.
God blessed this camp amazingly and 2 campers came into a relationship with God!
I am so thankful for the part that God allowed me to play in this and I look forward to hearing about God working in their lives. We have an amazing God who is at work in this world, people’s lives are changing and God is working through his Spirit.
I pray that God will continue to work in his world.

This coming week I will be embarking upon another exciting Cru Camp!
I will be heading off with approximately 100 yr 12 students to help them study (for 31.5 hours! OUCH), and most importantly, telling them about what Jesus has done through John’s gospel.
I’m looking forward to a great week of challenging students who are about to leave high school about how they can live their lives for Christ. What amazing opportunities we have in this country!
So in this week, prayer would be much appreciated! God can work in amazing ways, and I am looking forward to him working through our work on this Study Camp.
Find out more about Study Camps here.
