1 day to .com launches tomorrow!

I’ve gone .com!

This blog will be shutting down in a few days. To be replaced by!

There are a number of reasons that I will be doing this, here are some stated below

  • I have more freedom with code on the site, and as I am hosting it myself, I can add whatever I want. (e.g. I can now put in videos from sites other than youtube, and I can easily embed buttons at the bottom of each post to share on social media sites.
  • It gets respect from people online, and as I am interested in being online, this factors in.
  • It allows me to create other websites and host them, I have been considering doing some other small websites.
  • It’s better for search engines.
  • I really wanted to.

It’s been fun blogging here at, but I’m looking forward to the new opportunities created by this move.

The site will launch Feb 2, 2010. The time until then will be used to construct the site.

Thanks to everyone who has read this blog, and I look forward to seeing you over at

Happy New Year!

Yay for another year!

2010 is going to be a great year for me. Mainly because I’ll be getting married in July, but there’ll be other cool stuff as well.

2009 has been a pretty great year as well. Here’s some stuff that’s happened on this blog.

  • Started in May with this post.
  • Had a few posts with massive amounts of traffic due to external links (on RSS and Twitter)
  • But the biggest post was on Free Stuff that received an external link that people click through every day.
  • Stopped in August (for this reason)
  • Got back on the horse in November (for this reason)
  • Got published in December

Various things have changed and upgraded and improved and moved. It’s been fun.

Thanks to all those who read regularly! You guys are awesome!

And thanks to all who contribute to discussions! You too are awesome!

Blog Turns 100!

This is the 100th post on! A pretty exciting milestone.

I thought now would be a good time to reflect on why I blog, read about that at About this Blog.

Here are the things that I said this blog would be.

  • Concise – most posts are around 200 words, and rarely does one go over 300
  • Positive – I think so, what do you think?
  • Regular – At times… more on this below
  • Colourful – Every post has a picture
  • God focused – I think I’ve done ok at making sure this blog glorifies God.

If you have been with me since the beginning, you’ll know that I was originally going to do this for 6 months, and then decide whether or not to keep going. Well, It’s been more than 6 months, but for some of those months I stopped. So i’m at least going to keep going for now, there may even be something exciting in the works… but probably not.

Thanks to all who have been reading!

Calum’s Concise Blog Summary #1

So, summaries of this blog are good in my eyes, as it allows you to read about what is happening on this blog, without having to sift through past posts one by one. This means that if you don’t read this blog every day (which all of you do of course), then you can still see the titles of each post, and decide if you want to read them. You can also see if you want to read anything that I have been reading from around the web via my bookmarks.

However, “A Week has 5 Days” was a crappy title for these posts for a number of reasons.

  1. It was lame
  2. It didn’t make sense anymore, because the summaries were no longer weekly
  3. It was lame

Calum’s Concise Blog Summary isn’t much better, but at least it tells you what it is about. So, bonus points to anyone who can come up with a better name for me.

In the meantime, here is Calum’s Concise Blog Summary (tell me if you want me to add any other information to these summaries).

In exciting news, I had a guest post published at (a site with over 30, 000 subscribers). It’s called Use Posterous to Easily Enhance Your Tweeting.

A Week has 5 Days #3

It’s been a while since one of these, and I may have to change the name considering the fact I probably wont be writing enough to do weekly catch ups (Here’s what I was planning to do with these…). But here’s what has been happening on this blog recently.

Latest Delicious Bookmarks (What is Delicious?)

Glad to be back writing!

Maybe I will…

I like blogging.

Over the past few months, I have missed it.

I have missed the reflecting and the active searching for new information to share.

Life has calmed down for me, I now have three months of holidays (though I have quite a bit to do). So I think I may have some time to casually blog.

I make no promises as to daily posting, but I will try to make quality posts when I do. I hope that I can share some helpful thoughts, and I look forward to discussion that will ensue.

Some things I may blog about include

  • Continuing the Public vs Private debate (with new thoughts and possibility of creating a resource for pre-service teachers)
  • 6 children’s talks I am writing for beach mission (on crazy stories from the Bible)
  • General reflections from the Bible
  • Thoughts about technology
  • Anything else…?

A photo uploaded to Posterous

So first thing to blog about… Posterous

I just started an account (here), after seeing Dave Miers use it. It’s pretty cool, and allows you to immediately post to Facebook and Twitter (and other sites).

It’s pretty easy to post, just via email or on the web. I think it’s better than Twitpic or other photo services, and it’s not just for photos.

Well that was fun. I look forward to this casual blogging, and will see where it leads.
